Spandrel And Facade Cladding Glasses
Spandrels, which are composed with vision glasses, are used to hide the structural and mechanical elements of a building. Spandrels can be selected even in harmony or in contrast with the vision glasses. The compatibility of a spandrel and vision glasses can be examined on a ‘mock-up’ before the orders. Spandrels which require special attention can be performed in several ways due to the criterions and targets of a design. All spandrels and facade cladding glasses should be heat-treated (thermally toughened or heat-strengthened) against risks of breakages by thermal stresses.
Single-Pane Spandrel Solutions
Spandrel panels are made opacified, by applying a black polyester film on the second surface of the reflective solar control coated and heat-treated single pane glasses in the factory. High light reflectivity and low light transmission are specifications of increasing the harmony between a vision glass and spandrel. In structural silicone glazing, in order to bond the structural elements, the edge of the opacified glass have to be deleted a certain width. It should be specified before the order.
Enamelled Spandrel Panels
Enamelled spandrel panels, manufactured on clear or coloured float glasses with RAL colours by applying enamel print and process of tempering, are a good solution if any contrast is desired between the spandrel and vision glasses. With various colours, enamelled panels can be used successfully as facade cladding glass by applying the print on the second surface.
